There is only one “Links Of The Week” for August thanks to a nice summer break. So this is actually a “Links Of The Month”… ;-)

Announced by Johan Vos: “JavaFX now has a Headless platform. JDK-8324941 is now Resolved! Pfew, that took me 1 year, 5 months and 29 days. Goodnight!”

And Johan is also making progress with Java on Mobile: “OpenJDK on mobile developers should be excited: we’re very close to a full, transparent, open release of the status. Workflow is cool now: I made a simple change in OpenJDK, ran 2 scripts, clicked “cmd-R” in Xcode, and HelloWorld appeared again (with the changed JDK) on my iPhone.”

Gerrit Grunwald on Bluesky: “Last night I’ve implemented TimeBuddy which is my favorite timezone app on iOS in #JavaFX might be time for another #FridayFunComponent 😁”
Michiel on Bluesky: “I’ve created a 100% #java open source mobile phone app (#android only for now): An Icelandic currency converter (IceCo). The project uses Java, Javafx with FXML only. See GitHub. Converts krónur to euro (vice versa)”

Konstantin Ryadov is experimenting with FXGL to build a labyrinth game: “A small first‑person labyrinth game built with Java 21, JavaFX 21 (3D) and FXGL. A randomized maze is generated each level; find the animated exit to advance. The game features textured 3D walls/floor/ceiling, ambient lighting, footstep sounds, and background music for the menu and in‑game.” He published two videos:

Computerized Garden, a.k.a. GardenSim, is a Java 17 + JavaFX 22 project that simulates a small garden by Wineel Wilson Dasari. You can plant (Rose, Tomato, Orange), simulate weather, spawn/control pests, and watch plants survive or die over days.
Released on Steam: Nocturne FX. “Built entirely in JavaFX, Nocturne FX™ is a high-intensity arcade game where survival warps reality. Power-ups destabilize, patterns shift, and hidden systems awaken—the longer you last, the more the world unravels.”

Gerrit Grunwald released version 21.0.27 of his Charts library with a new SpiderChart “just for the fun of it :)”.

During the CyberJAR live stream “Chatting about Java, JavaFX, and Experiments on the Raspberry Pi” with Catherine Edelveis and Frank Delporte, several JavaFX applications where demonstrated running on Raspberry Pi.

A N M “Bazlur” Rahman on LinkedIn: “You can create incredible things with JavaFX. Here are some examples I made with it.”
William Antônio Siqueira shared a screenshot on LinkedIn: “I just added a log inspector to LLM FX, suggestion from Max Rydahl Andersen - thanks! This feature allow us to precisely see what Tools were called by the LLM Server and what messages were sent to it. This was possible because today was Day of Learning at Red Hat, so I invested some time learning more about Jupyter Lab extensions, LLM Tools Calling internally and then took some time to inspect some tools call.”
Johan Vos on Bluesky: “One of my favorite API’s for JavaFX testing is Scene.addPostLayoutPulseListener(). I often need to test a condition at the end of a Pulse, and with this API, I can do that.”
gufranthakur on Reddit wrote a long post “My experience switching from Java swing to JavaFX”, with a nice conclusion, and a lot of comments: “My Final verdict: JavaFX is better than Swing. There I said it. This does not mean Swing sucks, I will forever be grateful to Swing for getting me addicted and good at desktop application development.”
